Who We Are

Our Team, Our History

The idea for Li Ch’utam was born in 2009 when local Fincaros (farm owners) became aware of the growing inequality in the surrounding villages. They wanted to establish a small, local volunteer organization to bring resources and educational opportunity to the area.

Where We Are

Li Ch’utam supports communities in the south-eastern part of Alta Verapaz, where the Polochic River flows through majestic mountains ending in Lago Izabal, the largest lake in Guatemala. We work with multiple indigenous Q’eqchi villages in the Polochic Valley, providing resources and services to children and adults.
